Dates Aluwa / Dates Toffee

This aluwa recipe mixed with dates will be the perfect aluwa recipe for this year avurudu.

Ingredients:

  • Dates (without seeds) – 180g
  • Semolina – 65g
  • Condensed Milk – 397g
  • Sugar – 200g
  • Chopped Cashew – 100g
  • Vanilla – 01 tsp
  • Salted Butter – 01 tbsp
  • Fresh Milk – 50ml

How to cook:

  • First dry roast semolina few minutes until you get the semolina smell.
  • Then combine sugar and condensed milk in a pan. Add fresh milk into the condensed milk tin and stir well to get all remaining milk in the tin. Pour this to the same pan.
  • Heat the mixture in medium heat until sugar dissolves.
  • When sugar dissolves add roasted semolina and chopped dates. Heat the mixture while stirring continuously.
  • When the mixture becomes bit thick add vanilla and chopped cashew.
  • When the mixture starts thickening add butter. Always make sure to keep stirring until you get the pan out of the stove.
  • When the mixture becomes to a level that it doesn’t stick on our pan get it out of the stove and quickly transfer the mixture onto a prepared board. If you heat the mixture more than this level your aluwa will be harden.
  • Now flatten the mixture and cut into desired shapes before it gets harden.
  • Let aluwa cool down completely and separate pieces. Store them in an air-tight container.
