Vibrant and nutritious Sri Lankan dish: Kale Mallung

Kale mallung is a vibrant and nutritious Sri Lankan dish that celebrates the flavors of kale, a leafy green packed with vitamins and minerals. With its balance of textures and aromatic spices, kale mallung offers a delightful culinary experience that is both wholesome and flavorful, making it a popular choice among health-conscious food enthusiasts.

  • Kale – ½ bunch
  • Grated Coconut – 70g
  • Salt as per taste
  • Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp
  • Green Chilies – 02
  • Big Onion – ½
  • Garlic Cloves – 01

How to cook:

  • Remove kale leaves from the stem and chop finely. If you wish to add kale stems into your dish, make sure you cut them into thin slices.
  • Chop onions, green chilies, and garlic leaves.
  • Transfer all chopped ingredients into your cooking pan and add turmeric powder and salt as per your taste. Give it a good mix until all ingredients are well combined. If you want this to be spicy, you can add some pepper powder.
  • After that, mix in grated coconut. If you don’t want to cook the mallung you can eat it even like this.
  • Finally, cook this mallung under low heat around 01 – 02 mins while stirring continuously. If you overcook, it will destroy nutrients. It is perfectly fine for leaves to look uncooked when you turn off the flame. The mallung cooks itself even after getting out of the stove due to the heat of the pan.
  • Enjoy…
