Butter Chicken Recipe

Out of thousands of Indian recipes, butter chicken is my favorite. Butter chicken, traditionally called as murgh makhana is a very popular Indian dish that goes very well with any food like naan, dosai, rice, bread etc. Marinated fried chicken mixed with rich cashew and tomato gravy will surely make your mouth watering.

Ingredients:For chicken

  • Boneless Chicken – 500g
  • Ginger Garlic Paste – 01 tbsp
  • Yoghurt / Curd – ½ cup
  • Red Chili Powder – 01 tsp
  • Vinegar / Lime Juice – 01 tbsp
  • Oil / Butter – 5 tbsp
  • Ingredients:For gravy

  • Tomato – 600g
  • Garlic – 04 cloves
  • Ginger – 1” piece
  • Cloves – 02
  • Cardamom – 03
  • Green Chili – 01
  • Garam Masala – 01 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds – 01 tsp
  • Salt as per taste
  • Sugar – ½ tsp
  • Cashew – 20
  • Butter – 2-3 tbsp
  • Red Chili Powder – 02 tsp
  • Whipping Cream – ½ cup
  • Onion – 01
  • Water – ¼ cup
  • Butter – 03 tbsp
  • How to cook:

  • Combine chicken with ginger garlic paste vinegar, yogurt, and chili powder. Close and keep around 30mins until chicken marinate.
  • To make the gravy melt butter in a pan and add cumin seeds, cardamom, cloves and chopped ginger garlic.
  • Add sliced onions into this.
  • Add cashew and green chilies. If you can add more cashew than the amount mentioned here. Extra cashew can make your dish more delicious.
  • Add chopped tomatoes, salt, chili powder and garam masala.
  • Add some sugar and water into this and cook around 15-20 mins under medium heat until tomatoes become tender.
  • When tomatoes become tender, get this out of the stove and keep it aside to cool down.
  • Now it’s time to cook chicken. For that melt butter in a pan and add marinated chicken into this. We need to cook this around 15-20 mins until chicken changes color. Keep in mind that this is the only time we cook chicken. So, make sure your chicken is well cooked at this point.
  • After that blend the tomato mixture you made. Usually in butter chicken gravy there should not be any pieces. So, blend this mixture few times and get maximum tomato puree out of this.
  • Again, melt some butter in a pan and add tomato puree into this and cook it around 5-7 mins.
  • Finally mix whipping cream with this and turn off the flame. You can add some more whipping cream on top before serving.
