Home remedies to get relief from your Wisdom Tooth pain
If you are in the ages of 16-25 or early 30s, you are going to be wise. Welcome wisdom tooth to your life. Whether your wisdom tooth makes you wise or not is a separate matter. But, for sure it gives you intense pain.
Your mouth can have four wisdom teeth, one at each corner. As these wisdom teeth are the last to appear in your mouth, sometimes there is no enough space for them to come up properly. So, they have to find the space and grow. Because of this, they may stuck in between other teeth and wisdom teeth are much more likely to grow in an incorrect angle. This can cause symptoms like difficulty in biting and chewing food, headache, swelling in the gums, irritation, bad breath and pain.
If the pain is unbearably high and if you get continuous pain, visiting a dentist is the best thing you can do. Most of the cases removing these trouble making teeth is a good option. But, till then you can try these home remedies to get relief from wisdom tooth pain.
- Onions
Onions have anticancer and antimicrobial properties. These properties can kill the germs causing infections in your mouth and provide relief from toothaches. So, it will give you a relief from pain. What you need to do is to take a slice of raw onion and chew it, spreading its juice to where it aches in your mouth. If you cannot chew it, keep a slice of onion directly on the affected area for few minutes.
- Salt Water
Mix cup of warm water with a teaspoon of salt. Stir well until salt dissolves. Swish this in your mouth for about 30-60 seconds and spit out. Do this 2-3 times a day.
- Garlic
Garlic has antioxidant, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. These two properties can give a relief to the pain. Further, garlic can slow down bacterial infections in your mouth. Take a garlic clove and slightly crush it, until it releases its juice. Hold this crushed garlic clove against your aching wisdom tooth. In addition to that, you can chew 1-2 garlic cloves to get relief from pain.
- Guava Leaves
Guava Leaves are rich in anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic properties and an excellent toothache reliever. Chew 1-2 raw guava leaves slowly to release its’ juice to the paining area.
- Cloves & Clove Oil
Not only wisdom tooth pain, cloves can be used to get relief from any tooth pain. Anesthetic and Analgesic properties which contain in cloves can numb the pain. Not only that, its’ antiseptic and antibacterial properties prevent infection. Take a whole clove (Don’t crush or cut it) and place it in the place where it gives most pain. Keep this until you feel numbing feeling on that spot. You can try clove oil also. Apply some clove oil in to a cotton ball and brush it slowly over your sore gums.
- Peppermint
Peppermint is also a very effective home remedy used for wisdom tooth pain. This herb is rich in anesthetic properties that help relieve pain. Rub some peppermint oil in the paining area, leave it for few minutes and them wash your mouth with warm salt water.
- Vanilla extract
Vanilla extract is also considered as a very good home remedy for wisdom tooth pain. You can apply vanilla extract directly to the affected and surrounding area to get a relief. Or, you can apply vanilla extract in to a cotton ball, and hold the cotton ball in the paining area for few minutes.
- Cucumber
Using cucumber is a good method to reduce discomfort causing due to wisdom tooth. Cucumber is naturally cold and it can be effectively used to reduce the pain. Clean the cucumber well and cut a slice. Keep it in the refrigerator for few minutes. Then, keep these cucumber slices in your cheeks for few minutes. This can give you an instant relief from pain.
- Ginger
Ginger contains some anti-bacterial properties which help to reduce wisdom tooth pain. Here what you need is just a ginger root. Wash the ginger root well and cut it into small slices. Then, keep these ginger slices in the affected area for few minutes.
- Cinnamon Oil
Get some cinnamon oil and massage the affected are with cinnamon oil.
Few additional tips
- Place an ice pack to the cheek above the affected tooth to reduce pain.
- To get a quick relief, put a piece of cheese on the affected area.
- Use an antibacterial mouth wash
- Make sure not to chew any hard food
- Brush your teeth and tongue
- Cut down sugar intake
- Drink enough water
